DISASTER preparedness minister Tarsis Kabwegyere has defended the proposed construction of a 60-storey trade centre at the premises of the National Museum.
Speaking at a debate on cultural heritage in Kampala this week, Kabwegyere said demolishing the museum did not mean destroying the artifacts. Civil society leaders had called for efforts to continue fighting to save East Africa’s oldest museum.
“If you think politicians are letting you down, do without them,†Kabwegyere told the activists. They said the project was not accompanied by an environmental impact assessment as required by law.
