Hoima district chairperson George Bagonza and 29 councillors were sworn in on Tuesday. Bagonza promised to implement the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party manifesto.

He said although the NRM Government had worked on most of the roads, there still was a lot of work to be done. Bagonza was addressing his supporters after swearing in.

The ceremony was presided over by Hoima chief magistrate Olivia Namukwaya Kazarwe at the district headquarters. Bagonza promised to lobby for better roads to help farmers transport their produce to the market.

He said his council would sensitise people on how to benefit from the oil that was discovered in the region and how to double production through the National Agricultural Advisory Services programme. Bagonza said he would request the Government to set up more vocational institutions for the youth to enable them get skills to be self-reliant.

He added that he would ensure that hospitals receive enough drugs and more health workers. “That was one of the reasons why we started Hoima Nursing School,” he said.
