Ngora district council failed to form its executive committee in its first sitting on Monday due to divisions. Trouble started when the district chairperson, Bernard Eumu, appointed Peter Akomo, the Mukura sub-county representative, as his deputy without the councillors’ approval.

During the meeting, the councillors kept quiet despite several calls by the speaker, Robert Okalebo, for them to speak out. After several futile attempts, the speaker suspended the house till further notice.

Some councillors said they rejected Akomo’s nomination on the grounds of regional imbalance since he comes from the same area as Eumu and the deputy speaker, Emmanuel Okello.

Eumu blamed Okalebo for failing to seek legal advice from the clerk to the council and the chief administrative officer. The former MP for Kapelebyong county, Johnson Malinga, advised the councillors to put aside their differences to form the district executive.

He also advised them to read the council rules and regulations to conduct council business smoothly.
