Parliament convenes today (Wednesday) to approve the appointment of the Vice President and Prime Minister.

MPs will also approve the creation of more ministries proposed by the President for better service delivery.

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday appointed former Speaker of Parliament Edward Ssekandi Vice President and out-going security minister Amama Mbabazi Prime Minister and the leader of Government business.

One of the outgoing ministers is expected to table a motion to Parliament for approval of the new Vice President and the Prime Minister.

The motion to vary the number of ministers is expected to be presented by the Prime Minister shortly after his approval.

NRM caucus on Tuesday endorsed a proposal by the President to appoint 76 ministries. The out-going Cabinet has 70 ministers.

Cabinet ministers will be increased from 26 to 29 while state ministers would increase from 44 to 47. The President intends to split some ministries and create new ones.
