CHARLES Makuru was sworn in on Tuesday as the mayor of Rukungiri for the fourth term. He appointed the Rev. David Makana as vice-chairman.
Makuru named Hope Twikirize as finance secretary, Nice Atukwatse as secretary for works and production and Geoffrey Nshabire as secretary for social works. A total of 24 councillors, 14 of FDC and 10 of NRM, were also sworn in.
The council elected Betty Muzanira as speaker during the ceremony presided over by Grade One magistrate Samuel Twakire.
Youth councillor Julius Niwagaba was elected deputy speaker unopposed.
Makuru promised to work with everyone regardless of their political affiliation for the development of the town.
He was first elected LC3 chairman of the then Rukungiri town council in 1997.
