AMAMA Mbabazi’s appointment as Prime Minister has excited Kigezi region.

Mbabazi, who has been security minister and secretary general of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has served the NRM government in various senior capacities.

Dr. Remigio Kataratambi, a prominent farmer and elder, described it as one of the biggest appointments for the region.

“I am so happy and I believe most of our people are happy with the appointment. We thank President Yoweri Museveni for that great decision” Kataratambi said.

In Kanungu, Mbabazi’s home district, the news of the appointment trickled in as the district chairperson and his councillors were being sworn in.

Kanungu chairperson Josephine Kasya said Mbabazi deserved the appointment since he had never disappointed the President on most of his assignments.

Stephen Bikiriza, an elder from Butogota town council, said President Museveni had done well to reward Mbabazi and Kigezi with the appointment.

He said the region deserved the appointment for its long support to the NRM and the Government.

“The appointment was long overdue, but nevertheless, we are happy and grateful,” Bikiriza said.

Ruth Karungi, a prominent politician in Kanungu, said the appointment is a sign of confidence the Government has in Mbabazi and the Bakiga.

“We thank the President. We shall throw a big party to congratulate Mbabazi and wine and dine with him and the residents in Kanungu” Karungi added.

Kabale municipality MP Andrew Baryayanga said the people of Kabale had also expressed gratitude to the President over Mbabazi’s appointment.

“I have received many calls from grateful people from the greater Kigezi region. We shall work with him to promote development in Kigezi and Uganda at large,” Baryayanga added.

Canon James Kahuku of Kabale town said the appointment was a great decision by the President.
