THE UGANDA Cranes have embarked on a rigorous training regime that will not only eliminate any extra fat but also improve fitness levels ahead of Saturday’s Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea Bissau.

Like kids back to school from holiday, a majority of the 15 players that reported for the team’s first session, spent the earlier part of yesterday’s session reaching out to each other before undergoing drills under the watchful eyes of Cranes boss Bobby Williamson.

“I am pleased with the turn up and very happy with the fitness levels of all the guys,” Williamson stated yesterday.

Foreign-based stars David Obua, Denis Onyango, Geoffrey Sserunkuuma and Hassan Wasswa were part of the morning drills that looked at dribbling and movement within restricted areas.

Although Geoffrey Massa, Isaac Isinde and Andrew Mwesigwa joined the rest later in the day, Williamson will only have his first team available after Tony Mawejje, Abbey Dhaira and Henry Kalungi arrive on Tuesday.

“Nestroy Kizito, Vincent Kayizzi and Joseph Kabagambe are expected today. We’ve also organized a direct flight for Mudde Musa from Tunis, where he had travelled with his Sofapaka team,” team manager Chris Muyinda stated.

For the moment, Williamson will try to unearth the right candidate that will partner Andrew Mwesigwa at the heart of defence in the absence of suspended captain Ibrahim Sekagya.

Two of the three options (Isinde and Wasswa) are all available for assessment. Kalungi is the other candidate that will be considered.

Okwi, Wagaluka out

With unsettled striker Emma Okwi, Brian Umony (injured) and Dan Wagaluka all dropped for this fixture, Cranes attacking options will churn around Obua, Massa and Geoffrey Sserunkuuma.
