NAPAK district chairman Joseph Lomonyang has asked the Iteso to forgive the Karimojong for the atrocities committed against them.

At a ceremony presided over by Soroti chief magistrate Julia Acio, Lomonyang said the atrocities had turned out to be a curse to the Karimojong.

“What we practised, like raiding cattle, raping and killing people are now being done within Karamoja,” Lomonyang said.

He was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Katakwi district chairman Robert Ekongot and 22 councillors at the district headquarters.

The Karimojong warriors have been rustling cattle and killing people from Teso for the last 40 years.
Lomomyang also asked leaders in Teso not to let the border between Katakwi and Napak divide the two communities.

He said this was the time for peaceful coexistence and promised to dialogue with the Itesot instead of using the gun.

The council approved Margaret Ikulot to retain her position as the district vice-chairperson.

Charles Okalebo (NRM) lost the position of speaker to Katakwi town councillor Charles Olinga (FDC).
Jane Akaro (NRM), the woman councillor for Ongongoja sub-county, was elected deputy speaker.

Immaculate Kongai (Ngariam), Charles Okalebo (Kapujan) and Alfred Otuorot (youth) were approved to be on the district executive committee but their portfolios were to be announced later.

The resident district commissioner, Joseph Arwata urged the council not to exercise the principles of opposition in the local government.
Ekongot promised to ensure security in the district.
