One person died on the spot and four others sustained serious injuries when their vehicle overturned at Ibaare on the Ishaka-Kagamba Road in Bushenyi district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Esther Ingani, 27, a secretary to the vice-chancellor of the Uganda Pentecostal University in Fort Portal. The injured are Joshua Mugyenyi, Erastus Angenda, Derrick Dobbi, Isha Kagwa and Noel Twinomugisha, the deputy academic registrar. They were rushed to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Ishaka.

Ingani and her colleagues were travelling to Mitooma to attend a party. The Bushenyi district traffic officer, Michael Ensinikweri, attributed the accident to speeding.

Meanwhile, a Senior Four student of Uphill College Secondary School in Bushenyi district was on Monday knocked by an unidentified vehicle as he was riding to Bushenyi.

Ensinikweri said Nickson Twinamatsiko was killed at St. Kagwa trading centre. “We are hunting for the vehicle,” he said.
