The Police in Koboko district recently recovered military equipment near Keri trading centre in Kuluba sub-county. The items, believed to have been buried for over seven years, included bombs and an old AK 47 riffle.

The district Police commander, Edson Muganzi, said the equipment was found in a hole covered by a bush in Keri, six kilometres from Koboko town.

According to Muganzi, they recovered the items after a tip-off from a concerned resident.

“We suspect that the items were part of the weapons brought from Sudan and abandoned during the West Nile Bank Front rebel activity,” Muganzi explained.

He called upon the public to cooperate with security personnel in reporting such cases for timely response.

The UPDF 301 brigade administrative officer, Capt. Aldo Onyango, said the bombs were still active. He expressed fear that if the residents do not report such cases, they could end up selling the weapons as scrap, risking the lives of others.
Onyango said the equipment would be destroyed by the army.
