A partisan home crowd that braved an afternoon downpour at Kyadondo suffered a heart-break as the swift Zimbabweans punished every Rugby Cranes error in the opening game of the CAR Division 1B game yesterday.

The over 10,000 spectators, many of whom jostling for viewing space, often went cold as the Zimbabwe Sables outpaced and outwitted the Cranes enroute to a 25-15 victory.

Debutante Justin Kimono had a great outing with two of Uganda’s three tries which fell short of securing victory for the home side.

Cranes head coach Yayiro Kasasa blamed the backline.

“Our fielding at the back was not good. There was miscommunication and we made mistakes which cost us. They gained momentum when we made mistakes,” he noted.

The Sables went to work early when fly-half Tangai Nemadire found himself at the tail-end of a string of passes to touch down, giving the visitors a 5-0 lead.

After several near-misses Kimono lighted up Kyadondo with a try on the half hour to level at 5-5. Simon Wakabi missed the conversion.

Two minutes later Kimono was at it again following a good combination between Michael Wokorach and veteran Robert Seguya to give the Cranes a 10-5 lead.

A try each by Denford Matamangira and Gardener Nechironga; a penalty, two conversions and a drop goal by Nichamara Makwanya gave Zimbabwe a 25-10 lead before Seguya’s try later reduced the damage to 25-15.
