UGANDA Rugby Cranes’ hopes of winning the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Division 1B tournament evaporated after Madagascar suffered a crashing defeat to Zimbabwe yesterday.

In the build-up to this game, Uganda had relied on Madagascar beating Zimbabwe to remain in contention of not only winning the title but also progressing to Division 1A of the tournament.

But at Kyadondo Club, Zimbabwe proved their might when they followed up last Sunday’s a 25-15 victory over Uganda with an answered 49-0 whipping of Madagascar.
The Sables wrapped up the contest ahead of the closing game between Cranes and Madagascar on Saturday.

After Tichafara Makwanya missed two penalties 10 minutes into the game, Zimbabwe soon found their rhythm when Njabulo Ndlovu was let loose down the left flank to break the deadlock on 13 minutes.

Llyod Machanjaira, Gardner Nechironga and man-of-the match Shingie Mpofu scored two tries apiece as the Sables humiliated Madagascar.

Zimbabwe captain Daniel Hondo was delighted.

“It’s a great feeling winning here.”
