A demonstration by the residents of Kitenga sub-county in Mubende district over lack of clean water turned violent when the demonstrators attacked the sub-county headquarters and grabbed a water tank.

The Friday demonstration started from Kyenda trading centre with over 300 people carrying branches and placards. The placards bore messages demanding that the Government extends safe water to the area.

Ali Mataaba, a resident, said: “All the parishes in the sub-county are faced with water scarcity. The only few available water sources have very dirty water, which is used by both the animals and human beings.”

The LC3 chairperson, Joash Kalangwa, however, called for calm, saying provision of clean water was among their priorities in the next financial year.

Mary Jessica Nankabirwa, the sub-county chief, urged the residents to cooperate with their leaders so that such challenges can be addressed peacefully.
