CONSTRUCTION of a sh3.1b block that will house health workers at Mbale regional hospital is underway.

The hospital personnel officer, David Ebor, said the four-storey building would accommodate 24 families.

Currently, the hospital has 385 health workers

Each apartment comprises of two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, toilet, store and a bathroom.

Ebor said the structure, which is being funded by the Government, is expected to be completed in September.

“Over 75% of the work is done. We expect President Yoweri Museveni to commission the building in the next three months,” Ebor said.

He said some of the staff had been residing in uniports, while others rented houses far from the hospital.

“There will be no late-coming once the building is completed,” Ebor said.

He revealed that the Government had injected sh140m in the rehabilitation of the hospital’s sewerage system and that construction of a sh134m information centre was also underway.

Ebor said the Uganda and Japan governments had donated beds to the female ward, constructed a psychiatric ward and rehabilitated all the roads in the hospital.
