ANSWER: You can get a Government scholarship if you apply through the diploma holders’ entry scheme. You need to have scored at least a second class or credit diploma to be admitted through this scheme. There are also a number of non-governmental organisations and universities within and outside the country that offer scholarships. They include the Madhvani Foundation, Ford Foundation, Caritas and some embassies, among others. Such scholarships and their requirements are usually advertised in newspapers.

But admission will depend on several factors, including the number of applicants’ vis-à-vis available slots.

A The minimum university entry requirement in Uganda is two principal passes, according to the National Council for Higher Education guidelines. Since you scored only one principal pass in entrepreneurship and two subsidiaries, you are ineligible for admission. According to Baker Balunywa, the joint admissions board (JAB) coordinator in the education ministry, you do not even qualify for diploma admission. However, you can start with a certificate course and later upgrade to diploma and degree. Alternatively, you can apply through the mature age entry scheme if you are aged at least 25 years.
