Lightning kills three in Jinja

THREE people, including two children from one family were yesterday struck dead by lightning during an afternoon downpour.

THREE people, including two children from one family were yesterday struck dead by lightning during an afternoon downpour.

The children were pupils of Nawangoma primary school in Budondo sub-county, Jinja district,

Eight other pupils were rushed to Jinja hospital in critical condition.

A police officer, Henry Magoola, said the children were primary five pupils whose classroom was struck by lightning at around 3:00pm while they attended lessons.

He identified the pupils as Denis Kironde, 15 and Nelson Kalyabi, 14, both sons of Tom Kalyabi of Nawangoma village.

Irene Isabirye, a resident of Kivubuka village was struck from inside her house and died instantly.

The injured included Cyrus Wakooli, 13, Bitu Tibaidhukira, 12, Rose Awori, 10, Mariam Kutesa, 10 and Alice Ali, 13. Others are Hatim Mukungu, 12, Bosco Tabitila, 15 and another pupil only identified as Peace.
