THE Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, has declared war on corrupt government officials. Mbabazi promised to start the crackdown with sub-county chiefs, whom he said had failed to monitor government programmes.
He said a lot of money had been disbursed to them to ensure good service delivery.
However, he added that there was nothing to show for the funds the Government had been sending to the lower local governments at the district and sub-county level.
Mbabazi made the remarks on Saturday at Buremba Parish in Mpungu sub-county, Kanungu district, where he joined the residents to celebrate the NRM victory in the recent elections.
“The Government has tried extending services to the people but there is a big problem of corruption. I will not tolerate any form of corruption in any government institution,†he said.
The premier said leaders would be given measurable indicators to ensure that they meet certain targets.
He warned that those who are not ready to deliver should leave before they are pushed out.
He said poverty alleviation was attainable if Ugandans could concentrate on income-generating projects which do not need a lot of land like zero grazing.
Mbabazi noted that if people worked together towards achieving a common goal, the various challenges Uganda faces would be eliminated.
He blamed the poor upcountry roads to flaws in the tendering process.
He assured the people of Buremba that government pledges like providing safe water, a health centre and a school in the area would be met.
The function was also attended by the district Woman MP, Elizabeth Karungi.
