THREE people were yesterday admitted at various clinics after they were hit by stray bullets during a mob justice incident at Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb.

The injured were identified as Hannifer Nakitende, a pump attendant at Gaz Fuel Station, Emmanuel, a security guard at the same station and Nasser, a boda boda cyclist.

According to a witness, the incident occurred at about 11:00am when the Police shot in the air to disperse a crowd that wanted to lynch a suspected thief.

The unidentified woman allegedly entered the MTN mobile money shop claiming that she had a claim of sh400,000 sent by a relative .

“When the shop attendant told her that she had received only sh10,000, she asked for a seat, saying she would wait for the transaction to be cleared.

“In the process, she distracted the attendant and tried to pick money from the lockers. But an unidentified man grabbed her and locked up the shop as he cried out for help,” said Besweli Kiwummulo, a mechanic.

Other witnesses said by the time the Police arrived at the scene, the crowd had surrounded the shop, threatening to kill the woman. Two Policemen shot in the air to disperse the charged crowd, killing two people.

Nakitende was shot in the leg, Emmanuel on the buttocks and Nasser on the arm.

They were taken to nearby clinics for treatment. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi last evening said the guard was critically injured and was admitted at Mulago Hospital.
