DEUS Muhumuza salvaged the hosts pride when he intervened with both ball and bat to lead Uganda to a two-wicket victory over Nigeria in the ICC Africa region Division One Twenty20 game yesterday.

The tension-packed afternoon game at Kyambogo saw Uganda chasing a target of 105, fall from 93 for three to 98 for 8 within a space of just 15 balls.

Muhumuza, batting at number 10, steadied ship to see Uganda coast to victory with seven balls to spare. The tail-ender had also picked two wickets as the Nigerians were limited to 104 for six.

It was the second victory for the hosts after edging Ghana by a single run in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday. The hosts however lost to favourites Namibia in their second game the same day.

Uganda’s top batsman and opener Roger Mukasa continued to have a quiet event after he was bowled for a duck. But Arthur Ziraba, playing his first senior tournament was handy with 48 and was ably complimented by Arthur Kyobe (27).

But all hell broke loose as Leke Oyede (3 for 9 runs) and Chibuike Iteogu (2 for 19) went on rampage.

They trapped Lawrence Ssematimba, bowled Frank Nsubuga, had Ronald Ssemanda caught all for ducks- before Charles Waisswa (02) was run out as the scoreboard read 94 runs for eight in 17 overs.

Namibia on the other part kept their perfect record by beating Kenya by eight wickets for their third victory and stay in contention of the African title. They had beaten Ghana by 174 runs in the morning game.
