Which lane must one take when driving down Yusuf Lule?

EDITOR: I would like to know which lane one is supposed to use when driving down Yusuf Lule Road from Mulago roundabout towards Garden City.
EDITOR: I would like to know which lane one is supposed to use when driving down Yusuf Lule Road from Mulago roundabout towards Garden City.
On Friday at at 7.35am the policeman on duty (Tumwebaze, by the name tag) at the Golf Course junction directed cars in the inner lane to turn left towards Kololo, claiming that the inner lane at that point was for that purpose! I have driven down this road countless times, but have never seen a signpost indicating what Tumwebaze said.
Unless we are using different traffic norms, the inner lane is for all cars going both straight or turning left, whereas the outer lane is for cars moving faster or turning right in countries that drive on the left like in the UK, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Refresher courses might do some of the traffic officers some good.
They should also be taught to be polite rather than turn 'native' when one tries to make sense of their directives.
Tumwebaze challenged me to take down his name and report him to the Inspector General of Police!
