THE High Court in Tororo has dismissed with costs an election petition filed against Busia Municipality Member of Parliament Kevina Taaka and the Electoral Commission.

The petition was filed by the former information and communication technology minister, Aggrey Awori.

Awori had petitioned court, alleging that Taaka was fraudulently nominated and elected.

He alleged that Taaka used hate campaign, lacked the required academic papers and bribed voters.

Awori also alleged that the commission cancelled the results from five polling stations, which he said led to his loss.

Delivering his 32 page judgment on Monday morning, Justice Rugadya Atwooki quashed all the five grounds, citing lack of sufficient proof.

As Atwooki read his judgment, Taaka’s supporters jumped up in excitement even as the court session was still ongoing, forcing the judge to order them out of court.

Taaka told journalists outside the courtroom that justice had finally been done. She said she would settle to implement her manifesto.

Awori, through his lawyer, Hassan Kamba, said he would appeal against the ruling.

Outside the courtroom, anti-riot Police had to quickly disperse Taaka’s supporters as they hurled insults at Awori.

Awori immediately entered his jeep and drove off.
