GULU, Butambala, Tororo, Soroti, Serere and Kitgum are among key districts that are tipped for the title as the Uganda Secondary School athletics championships reach the climax at King George Stadium in Tororo today.

Gulu and several districts from northern Uganda yesterday dominated the field events as they took most top positions.

Meanwhile, five districts in Teso sub-region failed to take the teams to the event in Tororo citing lack of funds.

Katakwi, Kaberamaido, Ngora, Kumi and Bukedea district leaders said they were not able to send the teams due to lack of funds.

It was teams from Serere, Soroti and Amuria that fielded teams because their political leaders contributed funds.

Disaster preparedness state minister Musa Ecweru, Amuria woman MP Susan Amero, LC5 chairperson, Francis Oluma each contributed sh2m.

In Soroti the LC5, Michael Egunyu and RDC Ben Etonu also contributed so was the Serere RDC Omax Omeda.
