IN November last year, Mable Atemo, 25, got a swelling on her feet and later the stomach. This was accompanied by piercing pains in the stomach.

When she went to hospital, her kidneys were scanned and they found that her one kidney had been damaged by chronic kidney disease.

“The news was shocking. First, was the thought of having one kidney, then the revelation that it was shutting down,” said Yayeri Adiko, her mother.

Since kidney failure is not reversible, dialysis is regarded as a “holding measure” until a renal transplant can be performed. She began her dialysis on December 11, 2010 and spends sh500,000 per week. She needs a transplant to survive this ordeal.

She needs about sh60m to undergo the transplant in India since she has got a donor.

Any assistance can be channeled through her account,

Kidney transplant fund, Barclays Bank Kampala Road branch, AC No. 6002947194.
