THE sensational pair of Dickens Otim/Ambrose Okello will lead Uganda’s quest for medals at the upcoming 2012 Olympic beach volleyball qualifiers due July 26-30 in Mombasa, Kenya.

Usher Komugisha reports that top seeded Otim and Okello, known for their athleticism and sporty ability, have once again proved their dominance at the net and according to Mofhat Masaba, the beach volleyball chairman, a podium finish is highly anticipated.

The tactical and much experienced duo of Amon Ainebyona/Isaac Omedo will, alongside their female counterparts Vivianne Aketch/Sharon Pajije and Tabitha Ikomolot/Andrina Namata, leave for Mombasa on Saturday with only one mission: to win.

“This is the first time we are having qualifiers in Africa so we shall use the opportunity to make sure we end up on the podium,” Masaba promised. Team Uganda will be flagged off this afternoon at Oasis Club, Lugogo.

Uganda qualified for this event after the first round stage in Kigali, Rwanda last December where Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Comoros and the Seychelles also took part.

The Mombasa meet also includes the other zonal member countries Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan bringing the number of participating countries to 14.
