EDITOR: I refer to an article in the New Vision of July 18 under the headline: "World Bank builds office block for Jinja Lands Department". This is to clarify that the office built by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development with support from the World Bank are regional land offices and not district land offices.

The regional land offices will serve as Land Information System (LIS) centres for various regions.
Specifically for Jinja, the regional land office will serve the entire Busoga region, as Arua regional land office will serve the West Nile region; Mbale regional land office will serve the eastern region; Gulu regional land office for Acholi region; Lira regional land office for Lango region; Masindi and Kibaale regional land offices for Bunyoro region.

The Mbarara regional land office is for Ankole region; while Masaka, Mukono, Wakiso and Kampala land offices will serve the Buganda region. The purpose of establishing these land offices is to take land management services closer to the people and to create an efficient and effective land delivery system.

It is, therefore, not true that the lands office built will only benefit Jinja district.
