Woman breastfeeds grand-daughter
A 52-year-old woman, Kelovina Achan, amazed health workers at Lukole Health Centre when she turned up breastfeeding a baby aged one-and-a-half-years. They could not imagine a woman of her age getting pregnant. Acan, a resident of Aywee-Laboge in Lukole sub-county, Agago district, had taken the sick child for treatment. Shortly after, her 19-year-old daughter, Joyce Lawino, also turned up breastfeeding a seven-month-old baby boy. This raised more questions among onlookers. It later emerged that both children belonged to Lawino and that Acan was only helping her daughter to breastfeed one of them. Lawino had conceived few weeks after giving birth and was unable to continue breastfeeding. Acan said she takes herbs to induce breast milk production.
