Fame has cost me love
It is everyone’s dream to become famous. But did you know that fame comes at a cost? VICKY WANDAWA talked to Jackie Chandiru, a singer, for whom one aspect of life changed with fame

Being famous is lovely and comes with many privileges. For example, there are times when I go to the bank and I do not have to queue, I get to watch free movies and lots more.

However, I miss my privacy, I cannot do anything and it remains under wraps. What’s more, I hate it that people can make up stories about me just to sell their paper.

I also get upset when a person claims that I went to school with them and if I can’t remember who they are, they take it personally and make statements like, “Just because you are up there, you pretend that you don’t know who we are.”

One time, a woman called me and said she was excited about talking to me. When I kindly asked her to remind me who she was, she thought I was being proud.

However, it’s my romantic relationships that have suffered most as a result of fame. Men do not realise that like any other girl, I would love to be courted and wed. They think I am not serious about settling down in a relationship and that when they walk out on me, I have so many guys around me, so I won’t be hurt.
