Ndejje’s Chebet eyes podium finish at World University games

UGANDA’s university medal hopeful Joseph Chebet arrived in Shenzhen, China on Monday night ready to participate in the upcoming 26th Summer Universiade Games which commence on August 12-23.

UGANDA’s university medal hopeful Joseph Chebet arrived in Shenzhen, China on Monday night ready to participate in the upcoming 26th Summer Universiade Games which commence on August 12-23.

Speaking to New Vision in an exclusive interview, the Ndejje University student said, “I have arrived here in time to adapt to the weather and ready to win because I have prepared well enough.”
The calm long distance runner who finished 19th at the last edition of the same games in Belgrade, Serbia took to the training ground this morning to stretch out and practice.
He will be joined by African triple jump maestro Sarah Nambawa from Accra, Ghana where she was invited to participate by the Ghanaian Athletics Federation at the just concluded Ghana grand prix where she scooped gold.

Nambawa who leaped an amazing 13.68m to beat Nigeria’s Otonye Iworima (13.67m) is Team Uganda’s captain.

A total of 35 other athletes from five other universities (UCU, Makerere, Nkumba, Mbarara and Kyambogo) are expected to make it to this event that has attracted students from over 100 countries in the world.

Nambawa holds Uganda’s triple jump record of 13.95m which she clinched at last year’s Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
