COMMUNITIES have been urged to create harmony with health workers in order to strengthen their partnership, reduce maternal deaths and increase HIV awareness.

Speaking at a meeting to increase awareness of government health services and bridge the gap between health workers and the community, Diana Baryayaga, the head of Kawempe Health Centre, advised communities to be vigilant and guard against theft of drugs from health centres.

Byarugaba urged men to attend antenatal clinics with their wives.

“Many mothers we attend to use herbal medicine and only seek help from health workers when they get complications.

"Sometimes it is too late to save them. But with improved health initiatives, the life of the baby can be saved at 14 weeks, and expectant mothers who are HIV-positive are given ARVs to prevent mother-to-child infections.”

The meeting was held at Kawempe play ground, recently.
