The plan grossly favours children taking the newly introduced international syllabus. Those taking the international syllabus were all given the morning schedule that runs from 7:30am to 12:00pm.

Those studying the local curriculum, who constitute 80%, of the children were placed in the afternoon classes that run from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Every sensible parent knows that children between the ages of three and five should be having a nap at this time.

When contacted over the matter, the management went on the defensive claiming it was a board decision. It is curious that the Makerere branch of the school will continue running normally. There are many unanswered questions:

-Is the Ministry of Education aware of the new schedule?

-Did the ministry approve such a decision?

-Was research carried out to justify such drastic measures? Nowhere in the world do nursery children go to school in the afternoon.

-Aga Khan is citing large classroom numbers as the reason behind the decision! Did they not plan for the number of pupils that they should make such a drastic decision in the middle of the school calendar?

-Which employer would grant their staff time off to go back home to pick children in the middle of the morning to take to school? It also means parents have to make two trips to town in the morning and one back home regardless of where they stay!

-Will the school provide shuttle services for the children or will the parents have to incur extra costs for that?

-Will the children get decent lunch and afternoon snack at no extra cost?

-Why are the children being treated like second class citizens in their own country?

-Does Aga Khan Nursery School intend to phase out the local curriculum and become an international nursery? If so, we should be informed.
