OVER 600 students have benefited from the Kabaka Education Fund to facilitate their education in higher institutions of learning.

The fund is an initiative of the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, to promote education among bright disadvantaged children.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at Bulange, Mengo recently, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Eng. J.B Walusimbi, said they were working towards ensuring that each county gets a technical institute.

He noted that this would ensure that students who have not joined universities can access vocational education to promote job creation.

“We want to see that students who have gone through our hands desist from job seeking, and become job creators,” Walusimbi said.

He warned the beneficiaries against misusing the chance.

“Many parents want to educate their children, but they cannot afford because of poverty. I, therefore, challenge you to make good use of it.”

Walusimbi blamed parents for relying on teachers only to impart cultural education to the children.

The fund is currently supported by several institutions, including Mutesa 1 Royal University, Ndejje and Cavendish universities.

Meanwhile, the kingdom education minister, Fredrick Masagazi Musaazi, said they would strengthen monitoring and inspection of the beneficiaries.

He revealed that out of the 2,500 students who applied for sponsorship, only 600 were considered after subjecting them to several interviews.
