Long serving sports administrator Balamaze Lwanga is dead. He lost a long battle with cancer yesterday at his home in Kansanga.

Lwanga,75, who was last year admitted at Mulago hospital, was among the brains that started the national soccer league in 1968. He also served as Culture and Sports ministry permanent secretary before being SC Villa Patron.

“His demise is a shock to the football fraternity,” said Villa chairman Fred Muwema.

“As a club it hard for us to cope especially after recently also losing another pillar in Luyimbazi Mugalu.”

Uganda has over the past two years also lost sports heavyweights David Otti, Dennis Obua and Rajab Kisekka
