Pupils in some schools have missed lessons as third term begins. This after some teachers defied Government orders to teach or get fired.
In Kampala, a number of schools opened and a survey indicates that in some schools, lessons were conducted.
In Mbarara district, teachers reported to their respective schools and taught. Some were seen preparing tests for the beginning of the term for tomorrow Tuesday.
Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) called on teachers to boycott the opening of the term until the Government gives them a 100% salary rise to cope with the cost of living coupled with inflation.
A number of teachers are undecided on whether to heed to UNATU’s call to continue with the strike or get back to work.
In the northern districts of Zombo and Nebbi, some schools remained closed. Some registered a handful of both teachers and pupils.
By 9: 30 am, when The New Vision visited, Nebbi primary school, one of the schools in Nebbi Town Council, pupils were playing in the compound unattended to.
