Lango mourns Queen Agong

The Lango Cultural Foundation has declared three days of mourning for the fallen queen, Imat Victoria Agong Odur- Ebii.

The Lango Cultural Foundation has declared three days of mourning for the fallen queen, Imat Victoria Agong Odur- Ebii.

The 78-year-old wife to Lango Paramount Chief, Won Nyaci Yosam Odur-Ebii, died of asthma at her home in Teboke, Apac district last Thursday. “She woke up normally and didn’t show any signs of illness but got unconscious and died at about 6:00pm,” said Eng.

Dr. Michael Odongo, the burial organising committee chief. He said 12 committees had been appointed to oversee the burial which 10,000 people are expected to attend.

Odongo said the cultural
foundation held a meeting on Friday that resolved thateach clan head would pay a minimum of sh50,000 and a minister sh100,000 towards the burial arrangements.

“We were in high spiritswaiting to host the Won Nyaci. News of his wife’s death is not just saddening, but also confusing. May her soul rest in peace,” he said while addressing members of the Lango community living in Kampala at Kyambogo on Saturday.

Agong is survived by three children. A requiem mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Church in Lira before burial.
