THE High Court in Masaka has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for murdering his former lover.

THE High Court in Masaka has sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for murdering his former lover.

Richard Mwanje, a resident of Namasuba in Kampala, was convicted of killing Clare Nantege near Bwala Social Centre in Masaka municipality in 2009. Justice Elizabeth Nahamya, while delivering the judgment on Monday, said although she could sentence Mwanje to death, the 50-year sentence would make him feel the pain he subjected the victim to.

“You deserve to feel the pain by spending most of your life in prison,” Justice Nahamya said.

Mwanje confessed that he used a stone to murder Nantege. He said he seduced Nantege to travel from Kampala to Masaka by deceiving her that he was expecting huge sums of money from a relative in Kenya.
