Ugandans should embrace science and technology to achieve economic growth and development, microfinance state minister Caroline Amali Okao has advised.
Okao disclosed that the Government was implementing the National Science, Technology and Innovation and other science policies to provide a more conducive environment for development.
She said the quality and numbers of science graduates had increased in the country and four new science and technology courses had been introduced at Busitema, Gulu, Kabale, Kyambogo, Makerere and Mbarara universities.
The minister was on Monday speaking at the launch of the science week organised by the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology in Fort Portal, Kabarole district.
“Scientific knowledge and its applications through technological innovations are the main drivers of global economic growth and transformation,†she said.
Dr Peter Ndemere, the national council for science’s executive secretary, said the expansion of technology in Uganda would help to solve problems in health, agriculture and environment.
Kabarole LC5 chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga challenged the Government to equip school laboratories to facilitate the learning of science subjects.
