A row has erupted between members of the Masaka district council executive committee and the district land board over the sale of plots and houses in Masaka Municipality.

The district executive committee headed by the LC5 chairperson, Joseph Kalungi, summoned members of the district land board chaired by Fr. Joseph Kaita to explain the alleged sale of over 120 properties.

Kalungi and the district council grilled Kaita during a council session last week.

However, the councillors were not satisfied with the explanation Kaita gave regarding the sale of the municipal council offices to army chief of staff Brig. Silver Kayemba.

On Tuesday, members of the land board appeared before the executive committee in a session held at the district service commission chambers.

The scuffle begun when some of the members of the land board demanded that journalists be allowed to attend the meeting but Kalungi blocked them.

“You have been inviting journalists to tarnish our names but you don’t want to allow them inside when it is our turn to clear our reputation,” Peter Senkungu, the spokesperson of the district land board, said.

He accused Kalungi of being biased over the sale of property in Masaka municipal council when he (Kalungi) was among those who were interested in buying the property.

Senkungu also accused Kalungi of tendering in applications to buy plots in the municipality.

Kalungi, however, denied the allegations, saying the district executive committee would continue its investigations into the district land board over the sale of plots.
