The Kabale twins who recently underwent a successful separation operation at Wadi El Nil hospital in Cairo, Egypt have been readmitted at Mulago National Referral hospital.

Trevor and Timothy were admitted in Acute Ward 11 in Old Mulago after they developed severe fever and diarrhea.

According to the twins’ mother Rosette Tusiime, Trevor and Timothy developed fever after their parents walked a long distance with them to the church in Mulago on Christmas day and they started vomiting.

“On Sunday we walked a long distance from our residence in Bukoto up to the church where we prayed from. Since we did not have an umbrella under the sun’s heat, the twins developed a fever and started vomiting,” Tusiime said in an interview with New Vision at the ward.

The male twins, now six months old, were born on June 10 to Rosette and her husband Denis Owomugisha in Kekubo, Kabale Municipality.

Trevor is weaker than Timothy and he is now feeding through a nasogastric (NG) tube.

“We came knowing that doctors would give us medicine for the twins and go back but we were surprised when we were told to stay at the hospital after doctors sensed that the situation was worse,” Tusiime said.

 Risky situation

The twins risk getting infections from other children since they are sharing the same ward and yet their wounds haven’t yet cured.

“I was told by the nurses to pay a deposit of sh30,000 for a separate room but at the moment we don’t have any money,” Tusiime said.

Mulago’s Acute Care Unit admits babies with a variety of diseases.
