Bad Black aka Shanita Namuyimbwa the woman accused of embezzling sh11b from Daveshan Development Ltd Monday afternoon had her bail cancelled and consequently sent back to Luzira Prison.

Bad Black, who has been out of jail on bail, went to court in a jovial mood, but little did she know that she would be remanded to prison.

According to section 169 of the Chief Magistrate Act, once an accused person is committed for trial his or her bail shall be cancelled.

Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Irene Akankwasa committed Bad Black after state attorney Paul Lakidi from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions said he had instruction from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Richard Buteera to commit her for trial.

Attempts by her lawyers Caleb Alaka and Julius Galisonga to block the committal were futile.

The lawyers had challenged the committal proceedings, saying the matter should be referred to Constitutional Court.

The Chief Magistrate, however, overruled them saying there was no constitutional reference to make regarding the committal.

“The accused is hereby committed to the High Court for trial and her bail is cancelled,” Akankwasa said.

Bad Black who was dressed in green pants and a pink top, was whisked away by court orderlies before she could speak to journalists.

The heavily built men who were guarding her looked on as she was being taken to the cell.

She appeared seemingly dejected and bewildered in court when state attorney Lakidi said she would be committed to the High Court for trial.

Her lawyers equally appeared surprised. The trial date is yet to be set by the Anti-Corruption High Court division.

Justice Paul Mugamba of the head of Anti-Corruption Court granted Bad Black bail on November 16 after she spent close to a month in Luzira prison when she was charged on October 20.
