WHOEVER said Ugandan sports women cannot conquer their male colleagues can now revive their thought especially after the women have won the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) monthly award for four consecutive months.

First it was tripple jumper Sarah Nambawa in August, the national Netball team to All Africa Games in Mozambique, who won the Nile Special USPA sports personality for the month of September, then rally driver Susan Muwonge for the month of October and now golfer Flavia Namakula for the month of November.

The UPDF soldier (Namakula) was yesterday unanimously voted Nile Special USPA sports personality for the first time after she retained the Uganda Lady’s Golf Open championship by five strokes in Kampala.

The 25year-old UPDF Soldier fired an aggregate of 223 to beat golfers from Tanzania, Zimbabwe and her fellow countrywomen in the three-day competition.

“Wow! It shows that hard work pays. I’m very grateful. It was hard flaying against Tanzanians and Zimbabweans so it feels grate if you are recognized for such effort,” Namakula, who was also USPA golfer of the year 2008 said.

Athletes Dorcus Inzikuru, Jane Suuto, a pair of Ugandan beach volleyballers Dickens Otim and Ambrose Okello were all commended for their excellent performances during the month.

The assembly at Oasis restaurant Lugogo had former USPA Chairman Joseph Kabuleta take the association members through the future of sports journalism in the country.
