UPDF and police marines have called off the search for bodies of the two Danish tourists who drowned at Lake Bunyonyi yesterday.

Dustin Sebastian 21 and Suith Tomas 20, drowned yesterday in Lake Bunyonyi one of the deepest lakes in Africa.

Colonel Micheal Nyarwa of UPDF said "we are calling off this exercise for today at 5:30pm because rains and mud were a big problem".

Nyarwa said they will start tomorrow (Friday) so that they can remove the bodies.

Nyarwa earlier said they brought better equipment with head lights because the ones of police did not have lights.

He said heavy rains are a problem but his team is still searching.

Nyarwa said the mud which is more than a meter has made visibility under water a problem.

Danish embassy staffs are at the site coordinating the process with Ugandan authorities.

Earlier, Olivia Wawire, the South-south western regional police commander said, they contacted marines to help recover the bodies because the local methods could have decapitated them

Wawiire said police is guarding the area as they wait for the marines to help.

She said the duo were putting on heavy shoes for hikers and had gotten tired while swimming in the middle of the lake. She said the first one drowned and the colleague attempted to help but was drugged and all downed.

Jason the owner of Byoona Amagara Island said the Danish nationals had finished swimming, when they decided to take a walk.

While taking a walk on the island, they decided to swim on way back but had not removed the hikers shoes which when soaked in water can be heavy.

They drowned before they reached at the dock.

Emotions still high as many people have gathered to see the bodies being retrieved.
