THE future of volleyball is headed for darkness as the Tax authority is set to auction their equipments donated by the international body.

Uganda volleyball federation-UVF has failed to raise sh5.6m as taxes for the equipments worth sh70m they flown in October to help the development of volleyball in primary schools.

“We received a donation from International Volleyball federation to help us promote the sport in primary schools but URA billed us sh5.6m as taxes which we don’t have and now they want to auction the equipments,”UVF president Sadiq Nasiwu confirmed the development.

He explained that after getting recommendation letter from NCS, he took all the necessary documents to permanent secretary ministry of Education and sports but he was told that there is no money to meet such costs.

Nasiwu was however shocked in this short period while trying to consult with the sports minister and NCS secretary Jasper Aligawesa on the forward, the federation Courier- DHL informed them that the Customs officials have noticed them on their move to sell the equipments by auction.

“The consignment of over 1700 balls was to be followed by nets and Knee pads in the second donation but this has now joepardised the whole programe,” Nasiwu added.

He added that the international body is pressuring him to know the situation or else stop further donation of sports equipments.
