L. N Basudde, the minister of natural resources in Kabaka’s government visited a Musizi plantation in Wangu forest reserve in Bulemezi.

The plantation which was 27 acres in area was the first of its kind to be planted by the Kabaka’s government forest services after vigorous and successful trials.

The forest department launched an afforestation scheme in areas where  Musizi species grew naturally and aimed at increasing the output of quick growing trees for timber. Planting of this type of tree was carried out in depleted natural forests and forest reserves where timber trees were nearly extinct. This was done by the Kingdom in anticipation of the forecast shortage of timber by the year 2000.

The Musizi is a valuable timber tree which commonly grows in forest and farm lands in many parts of Buganda.
