In November 1961, Kabaka Yekka (KY) party was formed after the fusion of the Constitutional committee of the Buganda Lukiiko, the Uganda National Congress, the United Federal Party and 2 traditional groups.

In November 1961, Kabaka Yekka (KY) party was formed after the fusion of the Constitutional committee of the Buganda Lukiiko, the Uganda National Congress, the United Federal Party and 2 traditional groups.
 
Kabaka Yekka became the main vehicle for political activity among the Baganda. It was also the heir of Uganda National Movement of 1959. Its leadership included new-style politicians, less ‘advanced’ popular leaders and members of the Kabaka’s government.
 
Its main enemy however was DP, whose success at the 1961 polls and whose dominance of the central Uganda government thereafter had aroused dismay and jealousy in other quarters of Buganda.

Prof. Ssenteza Kajubi chaired the committee which selected the final design of the Uganda Court of Arms in 1962. The other members were William Nadiope, Mbabi Katana, George Kakoma and Rev. Polycarp Kakooza. The selected design was by Cecil Todd, a professor at the School of Fine Art, Makerere University.
