IGANGA municipal councillors on Monday resolved unanimously to use the local lusoga language during council sessions.

The same council had early this year passed a resolution requiring councillors to deliberate using the national language, a move that saw many of them  use broken English.

Enoch Ndazuula, councillor representing Nkono zone observed that many good ideas have often been left out because some representatives cannot express themselves well in English.

“It is my humble appeal that this council today passes a resolution to the effect that we can discuss freely in our own Lusoga dialect which we all understand,” Ndazuula said drawing applause.

Councillors jointly welcomed the suggestion and resolved to uphold it as a measure to keep all of them involved in fruitful deliberations.

Wilson Nkoyo, the municipality speaker advised that whereas councillors had agreed to use Lusoga, they could as well entertain some English especially from those who may prefer it.

“I know whether we like it or not some English will come in since reports given to us are always written in the Queen’s language,” he stressed.

Siraji Katono, the mayor appreciated the use of Lusoga arguing that it makes the debate more people-friendly.

“We solicit for votes from these voters in Lusoga and so when they come to attend council sessions as they occasionally do, its better they hear very well what their representatives have to present on their behalf,” Katono noted.
