THE Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) president Leodegar Tenga appears to be headed for a third term in office as the regional soccer body goes to polls on November 24.

With only four days left for closure of nomination for fresh presidential elections, Tenga is the sole candidate seeking the top CECAFA job.

CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye said that: “All candidates should be endorsed by their federations and the fully signed forms must be returned to the CECAFA secretariat by noon on October 25.”

Tenga, is also the president of Tanzania Football Federation has held the office since 2007. Tenga took over from former FUFA president now late Denis Obua and his mandate has expired.

He was elected for a four year term and just recently he was elected in the CAF executive committee. Tenga is also a member of FIFA’s technical study Group (TSC).

Tenga’s strength to seek another term stems from sponsors his regime has secured for their most prestigious competition -the Senior Challenge Cup and its competitiveness with guest teams invited.

Uganda has seconded their CAF instructor Justus Mugisha for top executive while vice president youth Charles Ogwel and their publicist Rogers Mulindwa committee positions.

He has also been at the fore front in settling internal conflicts within member associations. Member associations are represented in CECAFA by two delegates to the General Assembly.

His executive includes Vice President Fadoul Hussein from Djibouti, executive members Lydia Nsekera (Burundi), Justus Mugisha (Uganda) and Abdigaani Arab Said from Somalia.

Elections will precede the Senior Challenge Cup starting November 25 to December 10.
