UGANDA Technical College Kichwamba in the western district of Kabarole was on Monday closed following a student strike protesting bad food and poor administration.
The over 600 students accused the Principal Dr. Moses Twesigye-omwe of turning a deaf ear to issues that affect their education and health.
They claimed having missed sugar in tea, bad quality food as well as missing lecturers. The students asserted that the generator is not switched on whenever power goes off among other grievances.
Students pinned posters around the college demanding for the transfer of the Principal.
According to Sarah Namusabi, the vice guild president, what sparked off the strike was the persistent failure by the administration to switch on the generator whenever power goes off.
The Principal explained that they could not afford sugar and fuel to run the generator due to the biting inflation.
Kabarole District Police Commander, Joseph Kihamba, tried to calm down the situation but in vain.
