THE newly acquired electronic timers will have their reliability tested during the Independence Rally due October 15-16 in the districts of Mukono and Buikwe. The event will climax the National Rally Championship (NRC) calendar.

“We tested the machines but we shall test their accuracy during this championship as aback up to our usual manual process,” local motorsport governing body president George Kagimu said this yesterday at the launch of the two day event in Bweyogerere.

He explained that because of the event determines the national championship winner; they couldn’t depend on the new or old system alone to avoid complaints. The old system used manual timing.

The rally, covering a total of 300km with a competitive section of 156km, starts with a 3.5km super special stage at Festino Cite in Mukono under the theme “Plant a tree Today ” as one way of promoting environmental protection.

Super Lady Suzan Muwonge and Posiano Lwakataka are the two contenders for the championship with Muwonge leading the standings with 365 points, 25points ahead of Lwakataka.

The president of the event organisers Dusman Okee assured Kagimu and the rallying fraternity that they will keep it to international standards.
