Just what exactly is happening to arts in Uganda? After a group decided to take scripted drama away from the auditorium to the street in the name of Street Theatre, another group of dancers is taking break dance away from the streets to Open House on Buganda Road, a restaurant-auditorium that prides in hosting dinner theatre.

The Raw Expression show is on today at 7:00pm. On the proscenium arc stage will be the Breakdance Project Uganda. It is a show for the various groups that developed out of it. There are also others to which BPU contributes dancers. The most celebrated is Tabu Flo Dance Crew.

Others include, Hit the Beat Dance Crew, Steady Beat Crew, Mighty Dancers and Kagwilawo Dance Crew.

Surely, the naming of these groups says it all. You should expect dance battles as one group tries to out-do the others.  It is one of the shows with the bare minimum of choreography. In true breakdance format, you will have various guys standing aside to watch the challenger of the moment who will be more interested in the audience reaction. With such pomp, break dance can surely break a humble soul.

Breakdance easily rubs onto the audience and dancers often encourage their fans to try out a stunt or two. But hopefully, those who try out will not

be the clumsy kind. There is more to the show than breakdance.

It will also feature rap acts and poets while artist Donald Wasswa will be showcasing graffiti work in progress throughout the show.
