JUST less than a month after the demise of famous drama actress Cissy Muwanga, the local entertainment industry has been robbed of another comedian and actor in Jimmy Musisi commonly known as MC Jimmy.

MC Jimmy died on his way to Mengo Hospital on Tuesday, where he was rushed after he collapsed on his motorbike at his Kibuye home when he was preparing to go to his workplace.

Apparently, he had lunch with his wife and children and as he tried to start his bike thereafter, he became too weak and collapsed. He, however, gathered some strength to call his wife, who, in turn notified people who rushed him to hospital.

“Help me call people to take me to hospital.” Those were the last words the ever jolly Musisi breathed.

Jimmy presented Big Deal, on NBS TV. Most people, including his employers, described him as irreplaceable. Shawn Kimuli, his former colleague at NBS TV, said management will halt the Big Deal programme for at least a month as they ponder what to do with it.

Jimmy was also an actor with the comedy group Spotlight and Afri Talent. Over the years, he has emceed on several concerts and corporate and experiential shows. Whenever he got the microphone, it was very hard for revellers not laugh at his slapstick on stage.

Due to his comic antics, many musicians featured him in their videos. He has featured in of videos like Ragga Dee’s Ndigida and Letter O; Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s Embaata and Stecia Mayanja’s Kantinti among others.

“I think many people got a chance to interact with Jimmy, but very few discovered his spiritual side and true character. He was talented. Although he was loud and wacky on stage, he was a reserved person off stage. He will greatly be missed by everyone who knew him,” says Kimuli.

“Jimmy will go down in record books as one of the pioneers of comedy in Uganda. He has built a foundation for comedy and he loved his job. At one time he escaped from hospital and came to act. He was very jolly and loved art deeply,” says Abbey Mukiibi, one of the directors at Spotlight.

Late last year, Jimmy was rumoured dead after being hospitalised for almost a month under intensive care at Mengo Hospital.

When he recovered, singer Bobi Wine offered to perform free-of-charge to help raise funds to clear his hospital bills.

Top comedians, artistes, and media personalities braved the heavy downpour and ensured that they send off Jimmy at his maternal home at Katende on Masaka Road on Wednesday. He was buried at his maternal home because his father disowned him.

Ragga Dee, who supported Jimmy’s family during the time he was bed-ridden, said: “I will personally miss Jimmy to the very end because he had a special gift of listening and learning. Words cannot explain what I feel.”

Eagles Production singer Stecia Mayanja at one point lost her consciousness at the burial. She has known Jimmy throughout his life. “I will miss you Jimmy. Why did you have to go so early? May God forgive your sins and rest your soul in peace,” she said as she helplessly wept. She promised to take care one of Jimmy’s children. Mayanja had made plans to shoot her new Kabalagala video with Jimmy next week.

Among those who turned up for Jimmy’s burial were Isaac Rucci, Balaam Baruhagare, Sheila Nvanungi, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, and Aziz Azion.

Jimmy who passed on at 26, is survived by four children and a wife.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
